Do you have a PhD in plant science and can´t get enough of the universe of algae cultivation? Would you like to be part of a successful, science based, company with the mission to bring better health and well-being to people around the world? AstaReal AB has distinguished roots, spinning off from Uppsala University round about 1988. In the early 1990s, AstaReal became the first company in the world to commercially produce natural astaxanthin from microalgae. AstaReal is now looking for a passionate and resourceful Specialist in algae cultivation to their site in Gustavsberg outside Stockholm.


About the role
As our specialist in algae cultivation, you will monitor and seek to optimize the entire production process. You will make sure the algae thrive and grow in a process that is safe and efficient. Initially you will focus on optimizing growing condition but, in due time, you will also be engaged in process and product development. You will be in daily contact with your colleagues in Production, Quality, Supply chain and Sales. You will also have quite some exchanges with your international colleagues within the AstaReal group.
As a part of the R&D steering team you will also be engaged in clinical trials and exciting R&D cooperation’s both internally and externally. You will report to R&D Manager, Pernilla Berg.

Competencies and experiences
You have a PhD in plant physiology or similar relevant background and a keen interest in- and knowledge about cultivation of algae. This might be your first assignment outside the academic world. If you have experience from the food processing industry your application will be even more interesting. In a sense you will be working in a small company but with lots of international influences and opportunities. Therefore, you should thrive in a position with strategical and operational responsibilities, and daily collaborations with all parts of the organization and important stakeholders to the company. You must enjoy the production environment as much as the lab or office space. As a person you are proactive, curious, collaborative and communicative.
